Since 1991 the UK has enjoyed a sustained duration of economic growth, house prices boomed, unemployment reached its lowest levels for a quantity of years & the Pound performed well against the likes of the Dollar & Euro. This is now a thing of the past as they brace ourselves for the tough times ahead.
They are all aware that the UK has been hit over recent months by the deepest & darkest recession since 1991 - this economic downturn was first thought to be only a 'credit crunch' however, it's quickly turned in to something much more.
Leeds is the second largest financial services centre in the UK, the credit crisis within the London banking markets has spread north, causing a quantity of job losses throughout the region - it is estimated by the Centre for Cities research institute that up to 28,000 jobs could be lost in Leeds alone if the recession gets any worse. The long awaited Trinity Quarter development has been delayed again by the current economic climate, the company in charge of the development has now pushed the completion date back to Christmas 2112.
Leeds City Council is fighting back with their designs to stave off the recession & ensure Leeds' future remains bright. Their efforts means that Leeds is four of only four authorities nationally to have been awarded 'Beacon status' for the quality of partnership working &, as a Beacon authority, they will help other authorities all over the country create effective partnerships to represent local wishes & meet local needs. Designs are in place to attract significant investment in to the area - £3.2bn has been invested already in commercial property development, with a further £7.2bn already under construction or in the pipeline. Projects such as Eastgate & the Harewood Quarter total around £800m, with the regeneration of the Aire Valley & the due completion of the East Leeds Link Road - this alone will unlock around 400 hectares of development land which could lead to upwards of 30,000 jobs over the next ten years. a small outlay (less than how much it costs to advertise in the local paper for four night) will purchase advertising space on Ledds' best local community townsite - spending money to advertise your business on the net you will permit more people to see your company & divert more visitors to your web-site & potentially more customers. With Activ Leeds being a local web-site made for the community it will also mean that most people that will come to your site are likely to be local & will boost your local reputation amongst the local people.
Both the Government & Leeds City Council have realised that the best way to help kick start the economy is to spend! You can help Leeds defy the recession basically by spending a small amount of money to promote your business on the net. The best way you can help would be by promoting your business online with Activ Leeds.
By promoting your business on Activ Leeds you are potentially helping to put Leeds in an even better place to help fight against the recession.
